La Fura dels Baus and EXIT Foundation announce artists selected for Emergency EXIT performance

By 01.07.2025August 28th, 2025No Comments

Following an international call for artists, La Fura dels Baus and the EXIT Foundation have finalized the performer lineup for Emergency Exit, a large-scale immersive perfomance set to premiere in July 2025. The production will debut at EXIT Festival in Novi Sad, Serbia, and Boom Festival in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, before continuing to Sea Star Festival in Umag, Croatia in May 2026, and Barcelona, Spain in summer 2026.

Conceived as a spectacle at the intersection of contemporary performing arts, music, visual arts and environmental activism, Emergency Exit combines movement, aerial choreography, and storytelling performed directly within the festival crowd. The project is designed to deliver an urgent message on humanity’s relationship with the planet to audiences of thousands.

The final selection was overseen by Àgata Tantinyà, Art Director of La Fura dels Baus, who explained that the aim was to form a multidisciplinary ensemble capable of meeting the creative and physical demands of the production.

“We deliberately sought out performers from varied backgrounds—contemporary dance, physical theatre, performance art, and movement-based disciplines—prioritizing not only technical skill, but adaptability, creativity, and expressive depth,” Tantina said.

As the concept developed, the creative team adjusted its approach to reflect the realities of touring across different festivals. Local performers from each host city and region will now take on more central and responsible roles than initially envisioned.

“This decision was not only practical but also artistic,” Tantinyà explained. “It allows the piece to grow organically from the context it inhabits and strengthens the dialogue between the work and the territory in which it is performed.”

The ensemble, she noted, balances experience, physical presence, and artistic openness, with an emphasis on hybrid profiles—artists who can move fluidly between forms and bring their own language into the process.

Emergency Exit will adapt to each venue and festival setting, ensuring that every performance carries its own distinctive energy and impact. By embracing flexibility and collaboration, the creators aim to make the project not just a touring show, but a living performance that evolves with its audiences.
