Green EXIT Brings Environmental Initiatives Under the Slogan “We Can Only Do This Together”

Recycling is once again in the spotlight at this year’s EXIT Festival through a range of activities. Under the slogan “BE THE RECYCLING SUPERSTAR,” every visitor can become a Superstar by taking care of their waste and disposing of it properly, so it can later be used as a resource and contribute to reducing environmental pollution. EXIT Festival and the EXIT Foundation are implementing this campaign for the fifth consecutive year through the Green EXIT platform, in partnership with Ball Corporation under the “Every Can Counts” program, with support from partners HEINEKEN Serbia, Ekostar Pak, Coca-Cola, Solagro Smart Recycling, and TOMRA.

Last year, this initiative collected four times more packaging waste than in 2023. In addition to the existing recycling systems – recycling stations – a mobile packaging collection system and prize-based activities for festival visitors were introduced for the first time under the name Smart Flex Return.

How does the system work?

Branded mobile teams will be on site at the festival, collecting cans, PET bottles, and plastic cups in backpacks. Promoters will issue vouchers, and for every five pieces of empty packaging handed in, visitors will be able to redeem these vouchers for a reward: a gratis Heineken beer or a Coca-Cola.

In addition to mobile collection teams, TOMRA reverse vending machines will be available at the festival for visitors to deposit cans and PET bottles. This year, reverse vending machines will be located at the Main Stage and Fusion Stage. Vouchers issued for collected packaging can be exchanged for rewards at designated locations at the Fusion Stage, Reggae Stage, Explosive Stage, near the Observatory, and at No Sleep Foodland. All packaging waste collected through these activities will be forwarded for recycling by Ekostar Pak, which has been contributing to the improvement of packaging waste management in Serbia for 15 years.

Emergency EXIT & 25 Year EXIT Legacy Cups

This year, EXIT Festival visitors can enjoy their drinks in free branded reusable cups, available exclusively on Day 1, July 10, during the Emergency Exit performance at the Tesla Universe stage. Each visitor who receives a cup can choose to keep it as a unique Emergency EXIT souvenir or return it to Solagro’s mobile backpack teams. Five collected cups (as well as cans and plastic bottles) can be exchanged for one gratis Heineken beer or Coca-Cola. This initiative is supported by the European Union (EU) as part of the project “EU for Green Agenda in Serbia.”

Emergency EXIT is a multidisciplinary performance combining music, theatre, and multimedia, exploring themes of human connection to nature, coexistence, and transformation. It was created as part of a project of the same name and serves as an open call to everyone – visitors, performers, staff, sponsors, and volunteers to sign the Manifesto to Save the Planet, which will evolve throughout the duration of the project supported by the European Union under the Creative Europe program.

Eco Fashion Show WASTELAND: From Waste to Wonder

The eco fashion show by Rajmonda Zajmi will enrich the opening day program of this year’s EXIT on Thursday, July 10. Rajmonda is a renowned eco-educator and artist from Albania who has been using recycled fashion to communicate ecological messages since 2013. Her work is rooted in the belief that art and sustainability are inseparable. On this occasion, she will present a series of wearable artworks crafted from waste materials, including plastic cups, coffee capsules, banners, straws, and even Kinder Egg packaging, each piece conveying a message about overconsumption, pollution, and the potential for transformation. This fashion show will take festival visitors on a visual and emotional journey through the consequences of waste on the environment and the creative power of reuse. The show is part of the European project Remedies, in which the EXIT Foundation and the EXIT Festival participate.

Zero Waste Cosmetics in the EXIT Camp

To promote sustainability and contribute to the zero-waste concept, this year’s EXIT Festival will once again offer visitors in the camp area sustainable hair and body care products provided by the partner organization 123zero, as part of the European project INSPIRE. From July 10 to 13, the 123zero team will operate a distribution area in the camp where campers can pick up products and provide feedback on shampoos and body wash packaged in biodegradable containers. Last year, 2,500 products were distributed, and campers were thrilled to learn and see firsthand how the zero-waste principle works and why sustainability and environmental protection are so important.
